We're Ready! Ammies Joint Manager Happy At Hampton

Salford City’s Anthony Johnson thinks his side are ready for the start of the new season after getting the better of Hampton and Richmond Borough this afternoon.

In a Vanarama National League South vs North clash, it was City who came out on top thanks to Richie Allen’s goal late on in the first half.

But it was at the other end of the pitch that Johnson their joint manager was most pleased with.

“I’m pleased with how we’re performing defensively,” he said. “As a back three, we’ve got to be happy because we looked hard to score against.

“We didn’t look in too much danger at Hampton, and that’s really a good sign because we know how good sides are going forward in our league.

“It was a really competitive game and that’s what we needed with a week to go until the start of the season.

“We’ve got high hopes for it, but so have a lot of clubs. We’ve got Darlington first and they’re going to be really strong – it’s a great first game for the neutral and the press but maybe not for either of us!”

Johnson added: “There’s a lot of work been put into our preparation and we’ve come up against some good sides.

“There won’t be any easy matches next season, that we’ve accepted. We’re going to have to work, just like we did against Hampton.”
