We're Fully Fit And Raring To Go, Vows Reds' McDermott

Alfreton Town are fighting fit ahead of the season’s opening, according to the club’s manager.

New boss John McDermott will take charge of his first competitive game as Reds boss when they play Blyth Spartans on Saturday.

The home game sees Alfreton come up against the Evo-Stik NPL champions.

They go into it in great scoring form because last night they struck six goals again Long Eaton United to end their pre-season programme on a high note.

McDermott was happy with what he saw and is thrilled to get through with no players succumbing to injury.

“It’s been a excellent pre-season,” he said. “The squad is fully fit, fitness levels are good and we've come through unscathed. We all can't wait for Saturday.”

He added: “It was perfect preparation for Saturday against Blyth. The first half we had some excellent build up play and the second half we changed the team around and they executed the plan equally well.

“They put a young side out which were very athletic, they had good legs so they stretched us at times which is what we needed."

"I wanted us to get the football going and we did exactly that, we looked fantastic in areas, looked strong on the ball and we tested them throughout and limited them to little chances.”
