We're Bank Holiday Ready For BT Sport's Big Double Bill

By Sam Elliott

There’s a double dose of Bank Holiday BT Sport live action ahead over the next three days - and some teams at the top are stepping into the spotlight.

The National League is yet to really take shape but we’re starting to see a number of those expected to challenge rise their way towards the top.

When we grilled the broadcaster’s pundits about the season’s big title contenders, they all came back with the same answers.

Will Wrexham show the experts weren’t wrong - or will Woking show them up?

Last season the cameras were also at this one, and the Cards had a trick up their sleeve to put a huge dent in their title bid after Jamar Loza’s turn-around winner, pictured.

There won’t be any fatal blows landed on Saturday tea-time in Surrey, but the Dragons need to start showing some fire away from the Racecourse.

Both of their wins have come at home while on their travels they’ve fallen well short, collecting just a point from trips to Yeovil Town and Chesterfield.

Manager Phil Parkinson said after last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing of Maidstone United: “I just felt we have got our season off and running with that display.

"We have got seven points from four games so we are not a million miles away but for varying reasons, we haven't played as well as we can. I feel we’ve now got our threat back.”

Woking boss Darren Sarll has been thrilled with his team at home - but not away.

At the Laithwaite’s both Dagenham and Scunthorpe have been polished off with ease but, like Wrexham, they haven’t found it easy on the road.

Sarll said after Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Barnet: “The two goals we let in were really poor and we have to make sure when the chances come that we take them.”

Woking fans didn’t like it last week, but Bees fans certainly did.

The cameras will be at the Hive on Bank Holiday Monday and they’ve had some extra time to prepare for Eastleigh.

Dean Brennan takes his table topping team to Chesterfield on Friday night.

The Spitfires welcome Southend United to the Silverlake on Saturday before they make the trip to north west London.

Barnet have already beaten both FC Halifax and Woking 2-0 at home, while seeing off Yeovil Town 2-1 away, and they collected a point at Gateshead in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Brennan said before the trip to Chesterfield: “It’s a fantastic start but that is all it is - a start.”

He faces off against Lee Bradbury in the opposition dug-out, and like themselves the visitors have hit form early.

Watford’s on-loan midfielder JJ McKiernan’s first goal for the club gave them a 1-0 victory at York City last time out.

They have taken seven points from a possible nine after defeating Wealdstone and working hard in the draw with Dagenham.

Bradbury said: “We’re playing with confidence but it’s a busy month and we need to keep performing to a high level.”
