The Cards’ 2-0 victory over Welling United took the club to within two points of leaders Torquay United.
Wednesday night’s victory was their eighth in a row and they still have two games in hand over the table toppers.
Dowson said he expects his team to keep getting stronger as the title race goes on.
“We were excellent in the first half and should have put the game to bed,” he told Woking’s website.
“I knew it was going to be a bit subdued from the players after what happened at the weekend but fair play to them.
“People were maybe expecting an upset and sometimes it can be hard to get back to the league when you’ve just played a Premier League side.”
He added: “They’re a good side Welling, all it needed was a little turn and some panic set in but you have to give players to the credit for digging in.
“We’ll improve, we’ll get better but we’re in a good place. We’re on a great run.”
