Wednesday`s Pre-Season Friendly Review

A round-up of Wednesday`s pre-season friendlies.

After an impressive first half display, Vanarama National League club Chester FC had to dig deep to secure victory over Welsh Premier side Airbus UK Broughton on Wednesday night.

Goals from Kane Richards and James Alabi gave Chester a comfortable lead at the break before Airbus evened the score midway through the second half through Fabio Bassanque and Kevin Monteiro, leading to Craig Mahon to be the Blues match winner 2 minutes from time.

New loan signing from Liverpool, Adam Bogdan, saved a penalty within 3 minutes of coming on for his debut, as his Wigan Athletic side were held to a goalless draw at the Moss Rose by National League club Macclesfield Town.

Bogdan took over between the sticks from Jussi Jaaskelainen and was immediately thrust into the action after Dan Burn was penalised for a foul in the penalty area.

Macc striker Jack Sampson stepped up from 12 yards, but Bogdan was equal to his effort for a dramatic start to life as a Latic.

The Silkmen`s new league rivals, Sutton United, shared a 1-1 draw at Kingsmeadow against Ryman League Premier Division side Kingstonian.

Ryan Moss gave K`s a 5th minute lead before Bradley Hudson-Odoi scored from the penalty spot in the 2nd minute of second half added time.

National League runners-up Forest Green Rovers gained a 2-0 win over Sporting Club Olhanense on their pre-season tour of Portugal.

After a goalless first half, new signing Matt Tubbs came on at the break for Rovers and scored his second goal of pre-season as he headed in after good work by Mohamed Chemlal.

Liam Noble doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick from 35 yards.

Forest Green`s leag ue rivals Torquay United shared a 1-1 draw with Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West neighbours Tiverton Town at Ladysmead.

Tiverton opened the scoring in the 41st minute when John Duff found enough space to drill a low shot past Jamie Robba and into the net.

Torquay equalised in the 57th minute, thanks to a Charlie Duke header that squirmed past Tivvy ‘keeper Joe Perry.

Torquay`s new league rivals, Solihull Moors, went down to a 2-0 defeat at Keys Park against Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side Hednesford Town.

George Carline and Ashley Sammons were the Pitmen on target.

Southern Premier Division side Chesham United went down 3-2 to National League South club Hemel Hempstead Town at Amersham Town`s Spratley Meadows.

Ryan Blake bagged a brace for the Generals.

National League North side Chorley and another Wigan Athletic XI played out a goalless draw at The Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium in front of a healthy crowd of 569.

Chorley`s league rivals Harrogate Town edged out Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Cleethorpes Town by the odd goal in five.

Lee Maskell gave Clee a 22nd minute lead with Jack Richardson volleying in a second for the hosts 5 minutes later.

Jordan Robertson then pulled one back for Harrogate shortly before the break,

Seven minutes into the second half, Joe Leesley crossed for Andy Gascoigne to run onto and head past the stranded keeper.

Five minutes from time Dominic Knowles picked the ball up on the right touch line, drove towards goal, rounded the keeper and fired home.
