Wednesday Night Entertainment In Midweek Part Two

By Sam Elliott

The second instalment of midweek action produced plenty of talking points and some great comebacks.

After Tuesday’s six games, another half dozen were played on Wednesday - and here’s what happened.

There were two big matches down the bottom - and some real spirit was shown.

AFC Fylde turned things around to take three points home from Boston United, pictured. Corey Whelan and Adam Long secured a much needed first win for Kevin Phillips.

It turned out to be a win which took the Coasters out of the bottom four.

Two sides also at the wrong end met and Wealdstone produced a brilliant second half display to beat Braintree Town. Two-goal Sam Ashford was the hero in the Stones first win since August 26.

There was another turn around in the live DAZN game. Jack Stevens flipped Solihull Moors’ match with Woking, who went ahead early through Harry Beautyman.

Manager Andy Whing said after a third straight win: "We didn't have the same energy as the Barnet games on Saturday but we're really happy with the three points."

Sutton United suffered their third defeat in a row as Luke Hannett’s penalty gave Carl Magnay a first win in charge of Gateshead.

Managerless Hartlepool United picked up another point on the road. They went ahead at Altrincham through Nathan Sheron after five minutes but the Robins, Lewis Banks making it 1-1.

Aldershot Town and Southend United fired blanks but the away fans will be ruing missed opportunities.

In the National League South, Boreham Wood were held by Hornchurch while in the North Robbie Fox put the seal on a fine night for Farsley Celtic as they put Peterborough Sports in their place 3-0.
