Weaver Good Start Down To Tough Pre-Season

Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver has explained what his players did before the start of the campaign, as he built up the sides mentality.

It has been an impressive start for Town who are in there first season training full-time, manager Simon Weaver has spoken about why adding a team spirit and right attidude has been crucial, writes Tom Feaheny.

"We made the first team lads brush and scrub the toilets at the club, we want down to earth characters, who will run through a brick wall, I don't want a soft team, we know that some games in this division will be really intense, we have to be ready for it."

He added: "I don't think there will be much in it in terms of budgets in our League a part from the ones who are the really big boys at the top, it is going to be a really tough league, we hope it's attitude and fitness that can propel us forward."

When looking at the recruitment that the side carried out Weaver admitted that he had to make some tough decisions when it came to taking trialists on.

"We only wanted real quality not just added numbers. It is a brutal game some lads we thought were decent but some we learnt they can't do certain things. For some it was a no, we were truthful and polite about it and wish them on their way and hope they find a career in the game elsewhere

"There's no perfect grounding really, you can come from a league academy and be found out, for basic things as well, some can be over pampered."

When looking at the full-time aspect of the club, Weaver admitted he is enjoying.

"We are really enjoying it, I'm glad I get on with Paul Thirwell as we see each other day and night and as a squad, I'm in a privileged position, it's a superb opportunity, it's up to us to take it and we intend to with both hands."
