Wealdstone Proving A Week Is A Very Long Time In Football!

Wealdstone’s new manager Bobby Wilkinson already has two irons in the fire but can’t believe the quality of the squad he has inherited.

Wilkinson tomorrow kicks off a brand new era as the Stones travel to Eastbourne with manager Gordon Bartlett.

He has stepped aside after 22 years at the helm and Wilkinson, the Hungerford Town manager, has been named as his replacement.

It all starts tomorrow and previewing their trip to the south coast, the new boss is counting down the hours.

“We held an open training session last night and I’m already feeling what it’s all about here,” he said.

“The quality of the squad is fantastic. I’m very, very lucky in that respect. Not often does a manager come in and get to work with such a talented group.

“I hope of course that we can hit the ground running. A lot has changed in the space of a week but the bottom line is that we need to get wins on the board.”

He added: “I may bring in one or two new players when the time is right but not quite yet. I’m really looking forward to seeing how we play over the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Eastbourne and then Hemel Hempstead on Monday will be really demanding but bring it on.”
