Wealdstone Ease To A Comfortable Monday Night Win

By Steve Whitney

Wealdstone eased to a 3-0 win over East Thurrock United at Grosvenor Vale in Monday night`s only game in the Vanarama National League South on Monday night.

In front of a decent crowd of 690, considering there was little riding on the outcome apart from final placings and pride, the Stones produced a good performance as they attempt to finish in the top ten.

The home side took a 12th minute lead when Ricky Wellard`s cross was headed past Lucas Lidakevicius by Bradley Bubb.

And just 4 minutes later, the Stones doubled their advantage and this time it was Wellard who scored with a fine strike from 20 yards.

A minute before half-time, the home side had the game virtually wrapped up when Jeffrey Monakana beat an attempted offside trap and slipped the ball past Lidakevicius.

The second half was all about game management, and although Wealdstone had opportunities to add to their tally, little was seen of the visitors in attack and the Essex side seem to have decided their season is already over – this being their fourth successive defeat.
