Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to bottom club Whitehawk left the boss frustrated as his side missed a great chance to put distance between them and the bottom three.
Jones retains belief that Oxford can pull clear of trouble - but wants his players to stop adding to their own problems.
“I really dont believe there’s a massive difference between the top and the bottom of the National League South, sides really can pick up points against each other,” he told us this afternoon.
“We beat Chelmsford City, drew with Hampton who were on a great run and did well against St Albans City - we just crave that bit of consistency
“Since we knocked Colchester United out of the FA Cup we have only lost three of 13. We aren’t in terrible form.
“We seem to like making life difficult for ourselves - we have some good players in our group and we need to improve on certain things. We lack a bit of a ruthless streak at times and if we can find it we can be OK.”
Jones says the loss to Steve King’s Hawks maybe wasn’t as bad as it appeared to be.
“Let’s give Whitehawk some credit,” he said. “They’ve added some good quality players and Steve is beginning to get results.
“Our last few home results haven’t been good enough, we know that, but we’ll keep going and we’ll make sure we give ourselves the best possible chance to get out of trouble.”
