We Must Be Moor Clinical Says Spenny Boss Jason

Spennymoor will need to be more cold when it comes to their finishing next season in the Vanarama National League North.

Moors manager Jason Ainsley has told his players they will need to make sure their chance-to-goal ratio is high after stepping up from the Evo-Stik NPL Premier.

Spenny beat Tadcaster Albion 6-2 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon and the boss was pleased with how they performed in front of goal in the second half.

But a blunt first showed Ainsley that they aren’t the finished article.

“We were a bit sloppy in the first half with our passing but our football I thought was really good,” the manager said.

“We will have to be a bit more clinical in the league we’re going into than we were last year. We won’t get as many chance so when you get one you have to take it, and keep the backdoor shut at the same time.

“We will need to counter attack teams that come at us but in the second half we showed we can put the ball in the back of the net.”

Ainsley told Moors TV: “To score six goals, it was job done. I wasn’t bothered about the Morpeth defeat in midweek, the other season we won all pre-season games and lost our first two in the league but it’s pleasing to see the lads scoring again.

“I’m delighted with the efforts and we reacted well to the last game. Overall I’m happy with our build up.”

Spennymoor play Stockport County in their first game and they too went goal crazy on Saturday, beating Macclesfield 5-2.
