The Minstermen are now just a place above the National League North relegation zone.
They slipped to their lowest position after Saturday’s defensive horror show against Chorley, going down 4-1 to the leaders.
It was their fifth defeat in six games but Watson isn’t looking at the table.
“That’s seven goals we have let in during my two games,” he told us. “You can probably say that every one of them has been bad defensively.
“As well as we’ve done in certain spells, we have let in four and you can’t do that. They’ve had three free headers and punished every mistake.
“It’s very tough to take, but I have to take it. I expected a difficult start looking at the first two fixtures I had here and it’s certainly been that.”
But Watson did pick the positives out of a tough afternoon for the club.
“The three players making their debut did some good things and they’ll only get better,” he added.
“We created and missed five or six decent opportunities. I’d actually say we had more chances on goal but we’ve lost the game 4-1 and that’s what counts.”
