Watson Now Needs To See Character As Heed Struggle Again

Steve Watson told his Gateshead players they must get better and quickly as the club’s troubles continued this weekend.

Tommy Wright scored twice as Sutton United ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at the International Stadium. Watch Match Highlights Here.

The Heed have now not won a National League match since November. They are now only seven points from the relegation places after their bad run.

It’s a far cry from great start Gateshead got off to under Watson when he replaced Neil Aspin in October.

Now the boss wants warriors and a quick resolution to the team’s slide down the National League table.

“We’re in a bit of a slump and we now need to do something about it,” said the manager. “We’ve got a massive game at Guiseley coming up and we’ve got to get back to winning ways.

“We need to do a lot better than we’re doing, that’s for sure. There was a lack of responsibility out there and the goals we’re letting in aren’t good enough.

“There appeared to be a lack of confidence and we have to find some and quickly. It’s a worry but we’ve got to go to Guiseley on Tuesday and restore some belief.”
