Watson: Blackpool Perfect Test For Final Pre-Season Game

Macclesfield Town face League One new boys Blackpool at the weekend with assistant boss Steve Watson knowing how important the match will be.

The Silkmen are preparing for their final friendly before the start of the Vanarama National League on August 5th, writes Tom Feaheny.

Watson told the club's website that facing another League side is key ahead of their first match of the season against Wrexham.

"We have faced Bury and Crewe before this one and done really well, it is all about maintaining that momentum, this is the lads chance to put their name in the hat for the starting eleven in that first league match.

He added "Me and John (Askey) know just how important it is that we can work on the formation during this match to make sure we hit the ground running."

Watson admitted that he is glad the squad is nearly put together now.

"We have had a lot of lads come in and impress us, some sessions we had 25 or 26 that is a lot of people for training but we had to have a look, in fairness they have all impressed.

"We are pleased with the group we have got and know we can get one or two more over the line we will have done very well recruitment wise."
