Manny Oyeleke's goal with an hour gone put the Shots back into the lead and they are now five points off top in third place, writes Tom Feaheny.
"First and foremost it is a win at home, we wanted to achieve that, so that means it is job done," Waddock told the club's website.
"We didn't play at the level we wanted to but again it is all about getting the result and moving on from that."
"I credit Hartlepool they gave it a right go, they changed their formation, it wasn't comfortable but we ground the result on."
With some tough games coming up Waddock spoke about the importance of starting this run with the three points secured last night.
"This has to be something we build on, we needed that win, we have got it and now look forward to two away games."
