Despite being down to ten men in the first half following Adam McDonnell’s red card, the Shots powered to the summit as they not only held on but when on to double their lead and leave Hayes Lane with a 2-0 victory.
It was Aldershot’s fourth win on the spin and their manager was full of praise for his players - and the club’s fans in south east London.
“Considering we’ve gone down to ten men so early, kept and clean sheet and have taken three points, it’s a fantastic effort,” Waddock told the club’s website.
“After the sending off we dug in, we knew we would have to work hard and we did.
“The players took on board what we said at half-time - it was a fantastic, professional second half-time performance.”
Waddock’s side return to the top, meaning the Vanarama National League’s leadership has changed hands three times inside four days.
“It was more than a backs-to-the-wall performance; we showed our quality too. We have to change things around a little but but being able to call on Rends (Scott Rendell) and Matty (McClure) who has energy and gets was great.
“To a man, they were fantastic and it was a very pleasing night for us again.
“The organisation and the work rate of the players matched the supporters, who were excellent again tonight.”
