Vanarama's National League South Fan Preview: Eastbourne

Sports fan Ian Domin thinks the new era at Eastbourne Borough could hold big things

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

At last, the new season is nearly upon us - what have Eastbourne fans got to look forward to?
A fresh start and every fan I have spoken to thinks the appointment of Lee Bradbury is a big step in the right direction.

The new manager knows how to win the National League South. Does that bring added excitement?
It does but he won’t be expected to deliver that to Eastbourne quite yet! It’s a building process and the signs so far are encouraging. Long may that continue.

Last season was perhaps summed up best by a storming 6-0 win over Dartford sandwiched either side of home defeats to Gloucester and Concord Rangers. How do you go about finding more consistency?
That’s where the new manager will make his mark and change the mentality. I think we will be less inconsistent next season.

What’s been the best bit of business done over the past few months?
We’ve pulled off a really good signing in Greg Luer. He was outstanding last season for Woking and got quite a few goals and a couple against Torquay.

Who will be your one to watch come August 3?
Tom Hadler, another new signing. He’s a young goalkeeper and comes very highly recommended according to the comments on twitter.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
I believe Lee Bradbury’s old club Havant & Waterlooville will take some stopping that’s for sure.

But who will be this season’s surprise package?
Hemel Hempstead have some good players this year, so do Maidstone United but I’m not sure you could class them as a surprise package as such.

What away ground are you most looking forward to visiting and why?
Old Trafford when we draw Man United in the FA Cup. But before third round day, Billericay as the first day of the season is always special.

And what game would you like to win more than any other and why!
I get the feeling both games against Havant are going to be ones not to miss.

What opposition player would you most like to see in your side - and what makes him so good?
Danny Kedwell. He’s your typical Non-League centre-forward, a classic number nine.

Finally, the key question - where do you predict your team will finish next season?
After a disappointing season last time around ending the season in 18th place it would be great to see the side as close to the top half as possible. So 12th.

Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback.
