Vanarama's National League South Fan Preview: Braintree Toewn

Braintree season ticket holder Vaughan Creer has all the answers!

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

We’re nearly there ... the new season is upon us - what have Braintree fans got to look forward to?
When Glen Driver was appointed, he exclaimed his desire to bring a positive footballing philosophy and a bracket of entertaining football, and many players have expressed their excitement to play under Glen. This certainly will be something to look forward to for us fans.

New manager, new players and a new division. How do the fans feel the new-look Iron are taking shape?
It's hard to tell at the moment, with our pre-season outings consisting of many trialists, however a lot of players seem to bond well with their team-mates and their manager. Players like Trey Charles, Tom Richardson and Michael Johnson have already played well and will look to carry this form on to the season.

What’s been his best bit of business this summer?
I would say Tom Richardson is a fantastic addition to our squad. With four goals already in pre-season, he's impressed everyone after coming up from a lower division. I admire his desire to work as hard as he can in pressured situations.

Who will be your one to watch coming August 3?
Our one to watch has to be Alfie Cerulli, our only player from last season who has signed on for this year. He’s a young striker who played five times last season, coming on as a substitute he scored two goals against Gateshead and Dagenham, and we hope his goals will start to tally up when the season begins. One of our own, as they say.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
A real threat for promotion this year will be Billericay Town, if Glenn Tamplin continues to give them significant financial boosts and signing top-tier players, they will most definitely be looking to go up this year.

What away day can’t you wait for?
I'm looking forward to visiting Dartford’s Princes Park this year, as they are renowned for their well-kept ground. I'm hoping we can recreate some memories of the play-off semi-final from two years back.

And what game would you like to win more than any other?
Obviously it’s Chelmsford City. Two years ago when we played each other, both fixtures ended in a 2-2 draw, so hopefully we'll come out on top this year.

What opposition player would you most like to see in your side - and what makes him so good?
Dartford's Billy Crook would be great to have back, a creative midfielder who could get forward and defend, plus a calm penalty taker also.
