Vanarama's National League North fan preview: Guiseley

Guiseley regular Joe Priestly lays it on the line and gives us the lowdown on the Lions.

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday

New year, new optimism – what are you most looking forward to?
New grounds and new faces. It could be anyone’s year; we could see a new star emerge or a lowly team rise to glory.

Tough first season in the National League North last year. What was missing?
A hero. We had a good team of nice lads but we didn’t have a talisman, a man we can look to lead the team and bring us success.

Name one signing that has boosted your confidence?
Hamza Bencherif has come in after spells at York and Halifax. We’ve built quite a young squad so to have a big strong experienced lad to guide the team and help them out will be vital.

Are there any differences this season to last?
Last season we had to rebuild. This season the managers have their own squad that were hand-picked. There’s a bigger opportunity to succeed.

Name one Guiseley player sure to set the standard.
Kaine Felix. He performed very well in a season plagued with injuries last time out. He’s got similar players around him this time out and looks even more lethal.

Who are your favourites for promotion?
York are the favourites, but Kidderminster and Darlington have also assembled very tidy squads. Hereford could surprise a few.

Everyone loves an away day – are you planning any trips?
The Walks Stadium – King’s Lynn Town. It’s a new one for me and I’m looking forward to ticking it off my list.

If you could be assured of any victory, who would it be against?
Farsley Celtic. The rivalry is heating up again and if we’re really going to try and move forward, we need to be the dominant local team in the division.

What player do you wish was heading to sign for you?
Dan Maguire. He was top scorer last time out and we really need to score more goals. You can’t say fairer than hitting the back of the net time and time again.

Prediction time! Where will you finish this year?
12th - safe and sound with some good performances along the way.
