Vanarama's National League fan preview - Maidenhead United

The new season beckons and Maidenhead fanatic Stuart James gives us the heads up on the Magpies.

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday.

The new season is nearly upon us - what have Maidenhead fans got to look forward to?
Another year of upsetting the odds. In each of the past two seasons we have been tipped to finish in the bottom four but supposed bigger clubs than ours always finish below us! I can’t wait to prove people wrong again.

It didn’t look good for the club at one point last season. Was it a case of just sticking together?
Absolutely. One thing we never do at Maidenhead in the 35 years I have been watching is turn on each other. The results in the second half of last season prove why Alan Devonshire is a legend here.

What is going to be different this time around?
I think we will make a stronger start. We only took one point from our first five games last season. We have a tough opening to the season with the likes of Stockport, Chesterfield and Hartlepool early on but I think we would have learned the lessons of our slow start last August.

What’s been the best bit of business done over the past few months?
Freddie Grant from Wealdstone is a great bit of business. I watched him play a few times last season and I think he could go quite far in the game.

Who will be your one to watch come August 3?
Expect Josh Kelly our teenage striker to add to his growing reputation. They’ve got high hopes for him.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
The usual suspects will be up there. AFC Fylde have signed really well and maybe it could be Wrexham’s year. I think Torquay fans will fancy their chances.

Who will be the surprise package?
Notts County. With the problems they have had there not many people are talking them up but they’re a huge club. I’m looking forward to our two games.

What ground are you most looking forward to visiting and why?
Notts County again even if it is on Boxing Day. I have never been and they have so much history. Also Yeovil as you are guaranteed good cider!

And what game would you like to win more than any other?
It’s got to be Aldershot! Few months to wait for that one.

What opposition player would you most like to see in your side - and what makes him so good?
In a dream world Danny Rowe as you know 25 goals are coming every single season.

Finally, the key question - where do you predict your team will finish next season?
There is no reason why a top half finish can’t be achieved. If we get off to a good start there’s always one club along the line who surprises people are gets in and around those play-offs.

Vanarama have recently launched the National League Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback.
