Jas Singh wrote his name into FA Cup folklore with a pair of penalty saves as Tamworth beat EFL League One Burton Albion on penalties. After overcoming Huddersfield Town in Round One, the Lambs repeated this trick – this time on the road – by winning 4-3 on spot kicks after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
Boston United picked up what could prove an invaluable point in the battle against the drop, drawing 0-0 with fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet United.
Right-back Jai Rowe completed more successful defensive actions (18) than anyone else in his position on Matchday 21. He also led the way for interceptions (12), aerial duels won (7) and ball recoveries (13).
Also into the hat for Round Three are Dagenham & Redbridge. Centre-back Paul Kalambayi won four of five aerial duels in the Daggers’ 2-1 win at EFL League Two’s Wimbledon. He also completed nine clearance and 19/24 passes.
Yeovil Town were 2-0 winners at Woking, snapping a three-game losing streak. Morgan Williams was successful in 9/12 defensive actions and recorded six interceptions for the Glovers. He also completed 42/44 passes for the visitors.
Adam Crookes was on target as York City hit Maidenhead United for six at the LNER. The centre-back was successful in all five of his defensive actions while winning 8/9 aerial duels – the second most of any centre-back on Saturday.
Ashley Nadesan made one and scored the other as Sutton United eased past AFC Fylde 2-0. He took more penalty area touches (5) than any other winger on MD21 and received the second-most passes with 16. No winger attempted more crosses (6).
As has been the case so often, Josh Rees was Dagenham’s hero at Wimbledon. With 23 minutes remaining he came off the bench to send the Daggers through with a 79th-minute goal. Rees won all three of his ground duels, lost the ball just once and made three tackles.
If Brett McGavin scores, Yeovil Town tend to win. His fifth of the season secured a fifth win for the Glovers. He completed 37/44 passes to rank ninth among all central midfielders. Eleven accurate final-third passes put McGavin third among his positional peers.
Playing in central midfield, Louie Annesley scored as Braintree Town began life after Angelo Harrop with a 2-2 draw against Gateshead. His goal – a low effort from 20 yards – had an expected goals value of just 0.03. In other words, three per cent of going in!
Ollie Pearce just cannot stop scoring. Fresh from a hat-trick last weekend, the York City goal machine bagged twice in City’s 6-2 demolition of Maidenhead to make it 11 in his last eight. Pearce tried more shots (4) than any other striker on Saturday and received more passes (21), too. An xG of 1.31 was second to Sutton United’s Will Davies (1.71).
Southend United are now unbeaten in three after their 2-0 win at FC Halifax Town. Striker Bim Pepple opened the scoring with his fourth of the season – all three have come in Shrimpers’ victories.
Vanarama National League North
We’ve got new leaders in National League North where Curzon Ashton dethroned 10-man Chorley with a 3-0 win at Victory Park. Stefan Mols got the Nash’s opener and completed 3/5 dribbles for the visitors, while succeeding with 4/5 defensive actions.
Darlington won on the road for just the second time this season, brushing Radcliffe aside 4-1.
Caden Kelly got the second and took more shots (4) than any other winger in National League North. He also led the way for attempted (11) and completed (4) dribbles.
Joe Foulkes was the hero for Kidderminster Harriers as they saw off Leamington 1-0 in a Worcestershire-Warwickshire match-up. The right-back was successful in all six of his defensive actions, as well as winning more aerial duels (7) than anyone else in his position.
He recorded more penalty area touches (4) than any right-back.
Vanarama National League South
Kwesi Appiah struck early and late to give Boreham Wood a 2-1 win at Bath City that keeps the playoff places within touching distance.
The 34-year-old attempted more shots (5) than any other striker in the South with three of those headers. He also led the way for penalty area touches (9). Only Truro City’s Tyler Harvey could better his 1.48 xG.
It was another afternoon to forget for out-of-sorts Hemel Hempstead Town who lost 5-0 at Salisbury – it was 0-0 half time.
Jordan Ragguette struck twice for the hosts and had more goal attempts (5) than any other wing-back in National league South. The 22-year-old received the ball more often (23 times) than all but three players in his position, too.
Dorking Wanderers continued their recent improvement with a goalless draw at home to leaders Truro City.
Experienced centre-back Rob Milsom, 37, succeeded in 5/6 defensive actions as well as winning 75% of his defensive duels and recording 13 ball recoveries for the Wanderers.
