Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 9 Preview

By Sam Elliott

None of the National League top five appear in the mood to drop points at the moment.

For the second consecutive matchday, Chesterfield, Wrexham, Notts County, Solihull Moors and Boreham Wood all won.

The standard seems sky high already - will and of them let their guard down on Saturday, or will be there be another clean sweep? Here's the Unibet's main matches.

Will it be the calm after the chaos? Surely Saturday won’t be as eventful as Tuesday was for Chesterfield.

The leaders were a man and 2-1 down to Southend United before they plucked somewhere from somewhere to win it against the odds and hold on to top spot.

What Yeovil Town fans would give for such drama.

They have only scored more than one goal once so far this season but aren’t conceding many either. They’ll need to be at their defensive best this weekend but have already held Wrexham at bay.

Southend United vs Wrexham

Five games, 20 goals.

It’s hope more than expectation when you see Wrexham next on the fixture card right now.

If Paul Mullin doesn’t get you, Ollie Palmer probably will. If those two don’t, chances are Elliot Lee won’t be too far behind.

Southend United are standing in their way next - and after having their mentality questioned in midweek, it’ll be the perfect time to prove their season is going somewhere.

Two Roots Hall wins from three at least gives the fans something to hold on to, but to avoid a third straight defeat Kevin Maher knows he must see a big improvement.

Dorking Wanderers vs Notts County

County fans are still wondering how they can be unbeaten, winning their last four, scoring bucket loads of goals and still be third.

Talk about fine lines. It’s clearly going to take quiet a lot to get ahead of the pack this time around.

Notts are looking the real deal under Luke Williams and in any other season would surely find themselves sitting pretty at the top.

Will they shift to the summit this weekend?

Outside the chasers, Dorking Wanderers is considered one of the toughest grounds to go to.

Marc White’s team aren’t afraid to take it to them - even if Wrexham didn’t exactly struggle in Surrey a few weeks ago.

The manager and owner won’t accept a repeat performance of that 5-0 lesson.

He was thrilled that they put that home hammering to one side by side-stepping Barnet at the Hive in midweek.

It’s going to be another eventful weekend!

One to watch: Ruben Rodrigues (Notts County)
