Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 44 Preview

By Sam Elliott

You know something’s about to go down when BT Sport decide one live game just doesn’t quite cut the mustard.

It’s a double dose of TV action on Saturday and we’re about to find out the lasting mental impact of Bank Holiday Monday’s colossal clash.

But there’s plenty more besides, as Unibet explain in their latest weekend preview.

All your odds across the Vanarama National League are available at Unibet. 18+ begambleaware.org

Barnet vs Wrexham

Only one team wins it from here now, surely?

Well, if this season has taught us nothing else it’s that you cannot rely on anything when it comes to top spot - and this race isn’t run yet.

Wrexham could have it won as early as Tuesday night if everything goes in their favour and they’ll fancy by-passing Barnet, despite away troubles resurfacing at FC Halifax last week.

The Bees don’t lose many but haven’t won since defeating Wealdstone in their last live outing. They’re not totally certain of the play-offs yet but still want a home Eliminator.

Notts County vs Woking

Part two of the BT double bill comes from Meadow Lane and while the odds are against them, Notts’ message is clear.

Defeat at the Racecourse was a kick to the guts but there are no plans to let their title rivals sail off into the sunset.

While they were unable to stop Wrexham at home, Woking are the only side this season who have been able to.

They’ve just qualified for the National League play-offs for the first time ever, but that’s not enough - they want to finish third, and to skip those pesky Eliminators.

The Cards have won three from four away from home but Notts have been flawless in front of their fans lately, taking 12 points from a possible 12. They must get another to keep the title race alive.

Aldershot Town vs Scunthorpe United

There’s a few clubs who are cursing Torquay United right now, and Aldershot Town are certainly one of them.

If it wasn’t for Gary Johnson’s Gulls’ stunning resurgence, they would be all-but safe - now there’s a lot of work to do.

New manager Tommy Widdrington knows that, and knows too that he must avoid making his decision to quit King’s Lynn Town for the Shots one he desperately regrets.

Now just two points in front of the relegation zone, they can’t afford to make it five games without a win.

Especially with Torquay at home to York City, and even more so because they face a Scunthorpe side licking their deep wounds.

The Iron are down and out, a horror first National League season sees them relegated pretty much without a whimper.

If Aldershot are to avoid joining them, they need a repeat of the spirit they showed at Eastleigh last time out.

No side have won fewer away matches than Scunthorpe United. In fact, they’ve won just twice on the road since 2021 and the hosts need to make them suffer some more.

It’s going to be another tense and testing weekend!
