Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 43 Preview

By Sam Elliott

The days are counting down - and the Bank Holiday double bill is going to answer a lot of questions.

The title race is still very much alive with those sides not quite in touch jostling to avoid the play-off Eliminators - and the prospect of two away games.

Saturday’s fixtures have so much riding on them and he’s our pick of the games coming your way this weekend.

Stockport County vs Boreham Wood

With Stockport County near perfect for so long, a few defeats can start to make some a bit twitchy. But the next few days could see any anxiety gone for good.

Two losses in three have let Wrexham back in - and the damage could have been worse after the Dragons lost their lead to lose at Woking.

County’s advantage was eventually cut down to four points in midweek, and while their title foes have a home game with Southend United it’s all about focus now at Edgeley Park. But with tough games at Chesterfield and then Wrexham right after, three points would go down very nicely.

The table toppers have won nine from ten at home while Wood have just one success since February as their play-off dream ebbs away.

Bromley vs Chesterfield

Paul Cook pulled no punches after his promotion hunters squeezed past doomed Dover Athletic last time out.

Chesterfield have got to improve and quickly with the play-offs looming large, he stressed.

That said, they are not there for sure yet and have slipped down to sixth. The instant semi-final place they looked good for a few weeks ago now looks an outside bet.

Bromley would happily swap places mind you, their push for the top seven long since over after just one win in their last ten.

They do have Wembley in the FA Trophy to look forward to but Andy Woodman knows his team must pick up the pace ahead of the final.

FC Halifax Town vs Yeovil Town

There’s no doubt that FC Halifax Town manager Pete Wild has been one of the managers of the season.

But he knows how important it is that his side secure a top three finish for one very simple reason.

No side are better at home than the Shaymen with 16 wins already, and by beating Yeovil Town they will be one step closer to a crucial play-off advantage.

Only Solihull Moors haven’t left the Shay with their tail between their legs since January.

But they are playing a team who have achieved something very few have in the past five months - defeating Stockport County.

Charlie Lee has given himself a good chance of landing the Glovers job on a full-time basis and if he can follow up last weekend with a good result in Yorkshire, his CV will be glowing.

Yeovil are unbeaten away from home in five and with four games left, the club’s midfielder knows how important a strong ending is.

It promises to be another must-watch Saturday!
