Southend United vs Chesterfield

Problems a plenty for both, but evidence at least that things are starting to get back on the right path for these famous clubs.

Southend’s problems are well-documented but on the pitch their players continue to do the fans and themselves proud, even if they did slip out of the top seven on Saturday.

Chesterfield’s horrendous run was finally halted as they showed fighting spirit to come from behind to defeat Gateshead away from home at the weekend.

They’ve added Solihull Moors’ striker Andrew Dallas on loan and Paul Cook really needs him to hit the ground running and produce the goods.

Scunthorpe United vs Altrincham

We’re entering must-win territory for Scunthorpe United and it is still early March.

After threatening a recovery before going back into their shell, confidence they can avoid a second relegation inside a year will surely evaporate if they don’t take full advantage of this one.

Especially as visitors Altrincham go into it on the back of a chaotic 4-0 defeat at Wealdstone.

Phil Parkinson won’t allow a repeat but will be keen to remind everyone his team took ten points from their previous four matches.

What Scunny would do for a run like that - they simply have to close the gap with three tough away games coming, or the jaws of the National League North will start to widen.

Dagenham & Redbridge vs Wrexham

The last time Wrexham went to Dagenham with the title on the line things didn’t exactly go to plan.

On the final day of last season they needed a win in East London - and for Stockport County to come unstuck.

They failed miserably, going down 3-0, and their important 2021 trip didn’t end well, either.

The Dragons blew their play-off chances and it proved to be the end of the road for manager Dean Keates, who knew the writing was on the wall.

Will things be different this time? They’ll need to defend better than on their last trip down south on Saturday, held 2-2 at Maidenhead United having come so close to winning it.

The Welsh side missed the chance to stretch their legs at the top but the opportunity comes again in the capital with Notts not in action.

But they face a Dagenham side who are finding their feet in the promotion race despite the absence of manager Daryl McMahon.

It’s three wins from four and of course as Wrexham fans know, they’ve beaten their title rivals in the last couple of weeks.

It’s going to be another intriguing night!
