Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 37 Preview

By Sam Elliott

The countdown is officially on until the end of the season - and time is running out to change the face of the National League table.

After Tuesday night’s results and the arrival of the transfer deadline, Saturday’s programme takes on extra significance.

If Stockport County are to be caught, the chasers need to get a wiggle on and with the play-off hunters also needing to find their form, there’s so much to play for. Here’s Saturday’s feature games.

Grimsby Town vs Dagenham & Redbridge

These two are both loitering outside the play-off pack with intent - and neither want to miss a golden opportunity on Saturday.

A win for either may be enough to take them into the top seven as they look to dislodge anyone above them showing any sign of weakness.

Grimsby’s strength is their home form, so a cruel defeat to Solihull Moors hurt in midweek even more.

Dagenham are looking the real deal again and as Daryl McMahon predicted, the free scorers would come on strong. A fifth win in six would underline their promotion challenge.

Notts County vs Chesterfield

There’s nothing quite like a grudge match to inspire a late season surge.

There’s no doubt both sides wanted to be a little closer to leaders Stockport County, but with crunch time approaching it will mean more than three points on Saturday.

The BT Sport cameras will be there to see it - just like they were at Meadow Lane in the play-offs last summer.

Any repeat of the drama witnessed that warm afternoon would be welcome for the viewers at home.

Chesterfield, defeated at Altrincham in midweek, know any more dropped points could prove costly in the title race. Notts’ play-off place, meanwhile, still isn’t secure - despite two great wins inside four days.

Eastleigh vs Stockport County

If Stockport County are to be stopped, it’s got to be soon.

They say all teams at the top go through a difficult period, and how the chasers hope there’s one to come.

Not County fans, they’re loving life right now. After taking 46 points from a possible 48, most fans won’t have lived through a run anything like it.

But Dave Challinor refuses to let standards slip - he says there’s too much quality in the division to discount anything, despite their now ten point advantage.

He says he isn’t really looking at the table. A win at the Silverlake and he may need to start studying it a little closer.

Their fans love an away win and they have come home happy on their last seven trips but Eastleigh on their day are a real threat.

Those hoping to catch County won’t be cheered by the fact the Spitfires have only taken off once at home in their last five attempts.

But Lee Bradbury’s team do score goals and they hit three at Solihull last week and four against Wealdstone earlier this month.

It should be another gripping weekend of action!
