Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 35 Preview

By Sam Elliott

We had late, late drama last weekend and a more straight-forward midweek - so what will Saturday’s programme throw up?

There should be plenty more excitement on the way, with a big live BT Sport game thrown into the mix as leaders Notts County meet the ever unpredictable Dagenham & Redbridge.

More on that one in a preview to come but first Unibet cast their eye over the three other games to watch out for.

All your odds across the Vanarama National League are available at Unibet. 18+ begambleaware.org

Maidstone United vs Gateshead

One of these has a serious chance of avoiding the drop now - while the other knows the game is getting close to being up.

Maidstone United haven’t enjoyed their National League return and have just one point to show from a possible 36.

They already find themselves ten points shy of salvation and must win this, but Gateshead have been certainly competitive on their comeback.

Despite being shorn of stars Cedwyn Scott and Macaulay Langstaff - heard of him? - they have kept to their ball-playing style and just goal difference keeps them inside the bottom four. They’re now hunting a fourth win in six matches.

Wrexham vs Dorking Wanderers

Wrexham’s relentless February continues with a game they’re expected to win.

That’s no slight on Dorking Wanderers, who head to north Wales on the back of a much-needed win over Torquay United.

But with 14 wins from 15 at fortress Racecourse, it’ll take something special from Marc White’s team to join Woking as the clubs to not leave defeated this term.

The Surrey side know keeping their composure in their own box at key moments will decide what happens.

Wrexham have already earned ten penalties this season - and deadly Paul Mullin very rarely misses!

Chesterfield vs Oldham

Both these former Football League mainstays know things should be a bit better than they currently are.

While Chesterfield have progressed in recent years, another torrid opening to a New Year leaves fans wondering if they can get back into their groove.

Oldham, the first former Premier League club to be relegated out of the EFL, are blowing hot and cold and they’re nowhere near safe yet.

The Spireites are 21st in the six game form guide and confidence is currently shot.

Their situation is summed up by claiming just three points from a possible 21 - they desperately need to rediscover what it was that had them contending going into 2023.

With three tough away games coming at Wrexham, Southend and Gateshead fans know a play-off place is in no way promised.

Inconsistent Oldham have won away from home only once. Taking away that victory at Dorking Wanderers, they’ve scored only eight times on their travels.

Both sides badly need a pick-me-up.

It’s going to be another breathless National League weekend!
