By Sam Elliott

The National League promotion race is as turbulent as the weather so who’s forecast to have a good weekend?

Stockport County laid down a marker on Tuesday night, their win at Bromley opened up a three-point advantage - and now their fans want to know if they can stretch their legs on Saturday.

County host Woking while the other challengers also face a tough challenge. Let’s have a close look at what’s in front of some of the chasers.

Maidenhead United vs Boreham Wood

There’s focus at both ends of the table for Saturday’s live BT Sport encounter.

Don’t think Boreham Wood just have Everton in mind, they want to go to Goodison Park in the FA Cup on top of the table.

Tuesday’s professional win over Altrincham lifted them into third. They have four games in hand and are just six points shy.

Their last defeat came at Chesterfield in October, some 13 matches ago - Luke Garrard is happy to go under the radar.

Maidenhead United have recovered from their late 2021 slump but will be well aware that the teams below them who looked marooned a few weeks ago are starting to pick up results. They’re not safe yet, Alan Devonshire says.

Wealdstone vs Wrexham

Wrexham and their fans are not giving up hope of a title challenge just yet - but know there’s little wiggle room left.

The Dragons left five points behind in their last two National League games at Torquay United and at home to Maidenhead United.

Phil Parkinson refuses to rule his team out but with a 12 point gap they’ve got to get on a very good run and very quickly.

They won’t be given an easy ride at Wealdstone, who have earned a ten point cushion between themselves and the bottom three.

Stuart Maynard’s team are going for their third win in a row and are on a high after teaching rivals Barnet a lesson last weekend.

Chesterfield vs Solihull Moors

It wasn’t the first day at the office Chesterfield manager Paul Cook had in mind.

Late heartache at Weymouth not only cost them top spot, but a potential season-ending injury to scoring sensation Kabongo Tshimanga brought a dark cloud.

He suffered a fractured leg and a dislocated ankle and will not be returning in the ‘near future’.

But the Spireites have already shown they can cope with chaos and with a full house expected for Cook’s homecoming, he knows what three points could do.

But Solihull Moors have their own agenda, and their own promotion push to maintain.

Neal Ardley’s team have taken ten points from a possible 12. In that four game run they’ve scored 12 times and they are back to doing what they do so well, keeping four clean sheets on the spin.

It should be another huge National League weekend!
