Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 29 Preview

By Sam Elliott

Those not chasing their FA Trophy opportunity have the chance to apply real pressure in their absence.

Many of the teams at the top end have duty to fulfil elsewhere but the sides already out now have only one thing on their minds.

It’s a weekend perfect for taking advantage - so who will be Saturday’s headline grabbers?

Barnet vs Wealdstone

Not only are games between Barnet and Wealdstone local grudge matches, they’re turf wars too.

There were of course some infamous clashes in the 80s between the clubs before things got political but it’s about the here and now - and settling more scores on Saturday.

Wealdstone have the upper hand, defeating the Bees 1-0 in November thanks to Rhys Brown’s winner.

The fixture has even more spice with Dean Brennan taking on the team he took to promotion. Both are looking good for survival - but who will finish higher in the table?

Weymouth vs Chesterfield

Paul Cook knows everyone is thinking it - and also knows his first job is purely to maintain focus.

The new manager has the tantalising chance to take his team top of the table on Saturday on his big return seven years after saying goodbye.

Weymouth - with just two home wins to their name this season - may seem like a suitable first opponent but he will be wary of things going wrong.

Especially after a leggy 90 minutes with ten men at leaders Stockport County on Tuesday. Now they head to the south coast with a big prize on offer.

But the Terras have a new boss too in David Oldfield and he would have made it clear - a repeat of their dreadful defeat at King’s Lynn last weekend and it will be a long afternoon.

Woking vs Southend United

It’s amazing just what a few wins can do - Southend United hope the live BT Sport game can showcase their dramatic improvement.

Not so long ago the Essex club were fearful of a third relegation on the spin.

Just a few months on their fans are wondering if there’s still time to turn their problems into a play-off push and go full circle.

They have won six from seven and Kevin Maher has totally transformed the mood at Roots Hall.

After years of struggle and strife, are Southend finally looking up? We’re about to find out.

But Woking need a result themselves, their wonderful wins over Dagenham, Chesterfield and Notts County already seem a lifetime ago.

The Cards have already lost eight at home and need to avoid another bad day in front of their fans.

It should be another eye-catching weekend!
