Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 28 Preview

By Sam Elliott

Let's be honest, there’s not a title race around as exciting as the Vanarama National League championship chase.

Six points separate the top seven - and anyone in the top ten will be confident of nabbing a promotion place.

This weekend’s programme is packed full of those clubs trying to go up crossing their sharp swords. So what will Saturday show us?

FC Halifax Town vs Bromley

Two of the teams some thought would eventually fade away are burning bright in the title race.

Even when FC Halifax go on a bad run, their ability to bounce back keeps them very much in contention.

After disruptive defeats to Maidenhead and Boreham Wood, they last week showed everyone at Dagenham that they’re not going anywhere. Now they want a tenth home win.

Bromley have kept hold of manager Andy Woodman with the EFL calling - now he wants to take his club there. They go looking for a fifth win in a row this weekend.

Notts County vs Grimsby Town

There’s no doubt we’re entering a vital period in both these clubs’ seasons.

Both are sitting outside the top seven - and it’s not where their fans want them to be.

Notts, with games in hand, are only nine points off the leaders but they can’t afford many more dropped points it is to be a push for top spot and not just the play-offs.

Defeat at Bromley and a blunt draw at Wealdstone leaves them with a lot of work to do.

Grimsby fans would snatch your hand off for a place in the top seven come May.

The did something County couldn’t do and beat Wealdstone last time out but the gap to the promotion places is already six points and they can’t allow it to grow.

Unibet’s enhanced odds: Full-time Notts County - total goals under 4.5

Chesterfield vs Dagenham & Redbridge

The full-time fist pump from stand-in manager Danny Webb said it all last weekend.

Curtis Weston’s wonderful winner at Eastleigh ended a very difficult week in sensation fashion.

He praised his “professional” players - but things haven’t become any clearer since late success at the Silverlake.

Despite the off-field uncertainty, Chesterfield are just a point shy of the top and boast a game in hand.

But Dagenham know how to win big games on the road.

They beat current leaders Stockport County with a bit to spare on the first day of the season.

They have lost only once on their travels since October - and Daryl McMahon says his team’s ability in front of goal gives them hope in every game they play.

It should be another sensational weekend!
