Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 20 Preview

By Sam Elliott

After last weekend’s FA Cup adventures, all the promotion hunters return to the battle for three points and what a return it’s gearing up to be.

But it’s not just the teams at the top in need of wins - the melting pot down the bottom is starting to bubble away.

With the final few weeks of 2021 upon us, there’s little room for error and there’s some exciting games in prospect. Here’s three of the best.

Every week, betting partner Unibet will run the rule over the weekend’s main matches in the division.

Torquay United vs Stockport County

The odds for neither of these two to be sitting in the play-off places with Christmas looming would have been high.

So far last season’s losing Promotion Finals Torquay haven’t hit the heights.

Now on Saturday they come face to face against with Dave Challinor - the manager who broke their heart last summer at Ashton Gate.

He’s enjoyed a promising start to life after making the decision to switch from Hartlepool United. His new side have now won three in a row - and in their last two National League games have fired in nine goals.

One to watch: Oliver Crankshaw (Stockport County)
Unibet Enhanced Odds: Both teams to score

Notts County vs Southend United

Two clubs at opposite ends of the table need the points for very different reasons.

Notts County have enjoyed a rest after lasting kicking a ball against Dagenham two Saturdays ago.

Southend haven’t had that luxury and had to settle for a point in Tuesday after surrendering at lead against Maidenhead United. They sit outside the bottom three on goal difference.

County have won six of their last eight at home and three more points could see them up the temperature at the top.

But with Rhys Murphy back in scoring form, you just can’t disregard Southend despite their struggle.

Grimsby Town vs Chesterfield

There’s not too much doubt where the game of the weekend is taking place.

They may been going through a tough time but Grimsby Town know a win on Saturday will get things going again.

If anyone believes Chesterfield will have Chelsea on their minds then they can think again.

James Rowe simply won’t allow outside noise to derail their title assault.

The table topping manager knows a home win will claw Grimsby to within a point of his team again.

Chesterfield have scored less than two goals in only one of their last ten matches so the Mariners will have to get it together defensively to stand a chance.

It should prove to be another eye-catching weekend!

One to watch: Liam Mandeville (Chesterfield)
Unibet Enhanced Odds: Over 3.5 goals
