Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 12 Preview

By Sam Elliott

Vanarama National League clubs return to their bread and butter on Saturday - and they’re all hungry for more points at both ends!

Three clubs who weren’t widely tipped to go for automatic promotion are sitting pretty, and they’re licking their lips at what’s ahead.

Will it be another wonderful weekend for Grimsby Town, Boreham Wood and FC Halifax Town - or will one of the chasers get their teeth into the teams who have had an explosive start?

Every week, new betting partner Unibet will run the rule over the weekend’s main matches in the division.

Notts County vs Stockport County

It’s safe to assume both sets of fans had hoped for a little more than sitting outside the top seven as we near the clocks going back.

But while neither have hit the heights quite yet, there’s enough to suggest it won’t be long until we see them really knocking on the door.

Especially Stockport County, who are now getting going. Three National League wins on the spin has consigned their slow start to history, and they have another big FA Cup date to look forward to.

County’s win at Yeovil Town last time out in the league was crucial - ending a horror run of three straight defeats. They’ve won three from four at home but were hammered 4-1 by Woking last time out at Meadow Lane.

Solihull Moors vs FC Halifax Town

It’s now just one National League defeat in nine for the Shaymen and all their fans are saying the same thing.

There’s not much that scares Pete Wild and his players, including being 2-0 down with ten men against Notts County.

If they can leave Solihull Moors with three points this weekend the feel good vibes could just turn into potential title-chasing talk.

Neal Ardley’s team are going back to what they were so good at last season - keeping clean sheets.

Seven points from nine represents real progress in recent weeks and they’re gaining momentum. A win will surely be enough to haul them into the play-off pack.

Chesterfield vs Boreham Wood

Two of the top four lock horns - what better way is there to welcome back the National League this weekend?

Quite simply, Boreham Wood have been brilliant this season. One defeat from 12 tells its own story. Chesterfield, however, are back with a bang - eight goals in two games has put to bed their little off spell.

But manager James Rowe wants them to be more ruthless at home, and knows they should be four from four in front of their fans but for late collapses.

Nine-goal Kabongo Tshimanga against his old side is a very juicy sub-plot.

Wood have scored eight times in their five away games, and have already kept seven clean sheets in toal - three in their last three. Will that strong backline be able to keep Chesterfield’s on-form and deadly attack in their place?

One to watch: Kabongo Tshimanga (Chesterfield)
