Unibet's National League North And South Preview

By Sam Elliott

It may well be a very Good Friday for Ebbsfleet United - the first champions of the season could well be crowned this weekend.

But in the North the race is still bubbling away and with a juicy managerial sub-plot at the top this week, things as ever are simply intriguing.

As we enter the home straight, Unibet have every angle covered as part one of the Easter double bill commences.

Ebbsfleet United vs Oxford City - National League South

The equation is pretty simple - the task at hand not so much.

Ebbsfleet United will be the season’s first champions if they avoid defeat against Oxford City on Saturday.

Trouble is, their opponents are pretty good. They’re deservedly third, have lost once in the past 16 matches and go into the game on the back of a fine 4-0 win.

But Fleet want to finish the job in front of their fans this weekend and start the summer party even before it stops getting cold.

Peterborough Sports vs Alfreton Town - National League North

Just a few weeks ago it appeared that it was mid-table at best for these two sides.

Alfreton couldn’t quite find the consistency they needed to to wrangle their way into the top seven.

Peterborough Sports, whose long serving manager Jimmy Dean left for Scunthorpe at the end of January, were 11 points off the pace as March began.

Suddenly things have changed for both and the two teams fancy their chances.

Back-to-back wins over Spennymoor and Leamington has seen Billy Heath’s Reds shoehorn their way into the pack.

Sports are made of stronger stuff now Michael Gash and Luke Steele have got their feet under the table.

Undefeated in seven before succumbing to Scarborough in midweek, the unfancied outsiders from Lincoln Road are doing what they did last year - getting results.

Victory on Saturday sees them potentially move within a point of gatecrashing the play-off party.

Alfreton aren’t great away from home and only sides below 18th in the table have won less matches on the road. They'll know this is a tough place to get a result.

It’s going to be a potentially champagne-popping weekend across the two divisions!
