Unibet's National League North And South Preview

By Sam Elliott

Bank Holidays and the National League mean just one thing - six points each up for grabs!

It could be double bubble if you get things right over the next few days. But who will say goodbye to August in style?

Just Arsenal, Ebbsfleet United and King’s Lynn Town remain at 100 per cent in the top six tiers and they don’t want to be dropping points any time soon! Here’s our pick of the games on Saturday.

Banbury United vs Hereford

After collecting 102 Southern League points last season, were you really expecting Banbury United to lose the winning habit?

They may not reach three figures in the National League North, but three wins and a draw from their first four has cast aside any talk that the jump up could overwhelm them.

They sit second but Hereford are eyeing up the chance to leapfrog Andy Whing’s near non- stop winners.

Josh Gowling is happy with his team in the past few games, and they are looking to make it three victories in a row after defeating Chester and Buxton.

Welling United vs Chelmsford City

If you didn’t hear about Welling United’s weekend, pull up a chair and grab a cup of tea.

The Wings were 2-0 down at Hemel Hempstead and, in the 50th minute, they were staring defeat in the face.

Fast forward to the 54th minute and they were 3-2 up - and they held on, even after going down to ten men just after the hour.

For a team who survived on the final day of last season to be in a promotion place even this early is a big thing - even if the fans’ tickers could do without such drama!

Chelmsford City fans didn’t enjoy last season much, either.

But this one is already looking like it could be a lot better and they are unbeaten.

Eight points from Slough Town, Weymouth, St Albans and Chippenham on Tuesday represents a great return. New signings are already working and fans are liking what they are seeing.

If either team can turn a struggle last year into a play for promotion this time remains to be seen, but we all know what a good few wins early on can do.

What a big weekend we’ve got ahead!
