Unibet's Big Wrexham vs Grimsby Semi-Final Preview

By Sam Elliott

The teams are one win away from a place in the Promotion Final - so who’s going to shine in the semi-finals?

It all begins in north Wales, but with an energy sapping win at Notts County on Monday, have Grimsby Town got enough in the tank to win at Wrexham?

Don’t forget, both games kick-off at 12.30pm this weekend and they are of course live on BT Sport. The countdown is on!

Wrexham

They’ve taken two blows to the face in the past few weeks, now Wrexham need to pick themselves up and box clever.

After imploding at Dagenham on the final day - a result that ultimately didn’t matter - defeat at Wembley in the FA Trophy against Bromley was also tough to take.

Phil Parkinson is in no mood to let the Dragons’ season run out of puff just when it matters the most.

He will know his team are great at home - 12 wins from their last 13 games makes them big favourites to head to the London Stadium. But this is the play-offs, where a wild afternoon is forecast.

Grimsby Town

Paul Hurst isn’t concerned that his Mariners expended all their energy in Nottingham on Monday night.

He says his teams were given legs by their late, late heroics at Meadow Lane - not that they need them. He says his players are still floating on air!

Grimsby deserved what they got against Notts County, he stressed, but accepted he didn’t think they would get their just rewards as the clock ticked towards the 96th minute.

But the manager says Wrexham would have been rubbing their hands at the game going to extra time ahead of Saturday’s semi-final.

Town are now nine unbeaten away from home and will certainly put up a fight this weekend.

Both sides have beaten each other already, Ollie Palmer’s winner at the Racecourse was big for Wrexham with Max Wright’s late, late double earning Grimsby all three points back in August.

Hurst accepts there’s little room for error in the live BT Sport showdown.

But he believes his team have answered some questions by outplaying Notts on Monday - and says if his team reach those standards again, they have a big chance.

So who is heading for East London?

We’re about to find out with the two massive semi-finals all set to start!
