Two Upsets In Tuesday's Buildbase FA Trophy Third Round Replays

Vanarama National League North promotion-chasers Harrogate Town bowed out after a 3-2 defeat at ambitious Bostik League Premier side Billericay Town`s New Lodge.

Clinical finishes from Ricky Modeste and top scorer Callum Robinson inside the first 33 minutes saw the hosts take hold of the tie, although Simon Ainge's penalty before the interval ensured the tie was very much still alive.

Billericay regained their two-goal lead 9 minutes after the restart when, Adam Cunnington fired into the top corner from the edge of the box, but the tie was not finished.

With 19 minutes remaining, Billericay were reduced to ten-men when Callum Butcher was shown two yellow cards in quick succession but, despite an 88th minute header from Mark Beck, Harrogate couldn`t find an equaliser to force extra-time.

There was plenty of drama at Edgeley Park as the ten-man of National League North side Stockport County held out to defeat National League Maidenhead United after going two-down in normal time.

It was goalless at the break, but all the drama came after the half-time drinks.

The Magpies took a 54th minute lead when County defender Chris Smalley's back-pass to keeper Ben Hinchliffe was under-hit, and seized upon by Jake Hyde, who rounded the keeper before slotting home.

And 6 minutes later, it looked like the end of the road for the Hatters when Sam Barratt headed home sub Harold Odametey's looping cross just inside the far post to double the lead.

Stockport pulled one back 8 minutes from time when Scott Duxbury fed Darren Stephenson before the latter cut in and fired low past Lloyd Pentney.

And then in the last minute of normal time, Duxbury crossed for George West, whose shot was deflected in by Alan Massey.

So to extra-time on a bitterly cold evening, and only 4 minutes in, Stephenson exchanged passes with Duxbury, whose low cross was turned in by Jimmy Ball to put the Hatters ahead for the first time in the match.

But on 99 minutes, Stockport were reduced to ten-men when Harry Winter received a second yellow after fouling Odametey.

However, the hosts managed to survive – just – as in stoppage time of extra-time, Hinchliffe pulled off a fine save from Sean Marks from point-blank range!

There was to be no upset at H2T Group Stadium where National League side Bromley blew Evo-Stik league Premier visitors Workington AFC away with a devastating second half burst.

The Reds kept pace with their hosts for the majority of the first half in which there were two goals within the opening 6 minutes.

The game was only 4 minutes old when recent signing Brandon Hanlan controlled the ball well and slammed a shot past Aaran Taylor in the Reds goal.

But the Reds replied almost instantly when Scott Allison did well to hold up the ball before Nathan Waterston rifled it home.

Dennis was proving a thorn in Reds' side as he took his chance to make it 2-1 just 2 minutes before the break with a 25-yard effort.

But it just seemed like a matter of time before the home side scored again and it came in the 53rd minute when George Porter rifled a shot past Taylor to go 3-1 ahead.

That opened the floodgates as Workington tired and Dennis added his second on 69 minutes and sub Luke Wanadio added a fifth on 77 minutes with Jordan Higgs on 84 minutes and Tommy Holland 2 minutes from time making it a rather cruel 7-1 final score.

In the all-National League replay, Gateshead beat Maidstone United at the International Stadium to set up a Quarter-Final tie at Leyton Orient.

However, it could have been a lot different had home `keeper James Montgomery not saved Jamar Loza`s 11th minute penalty given after he had brought down Seth Twumasi.

Neill Byrne put the hosts in front 5 minutes later and then goals in the 72nd minute from Paddy McLaughlin and 85th minute by Richard Peniket sealed the Heed`s passage.

National League North triumphed over National League South in the evening`s other replay between East Thurrock United and Spennymoor Town at Rookery Hill.

It was Rocks that had the lead inside 5 minutes when Montel Agyemang’s looping free-kick from 35 yards ballooned over `keeper Jordan Porter and nestled in the top corner.

On 35 minutes Moors pulled level with an Andrew Johnson effort.

Seconds after Lukas Lidakevicius had made a fine save to deny Rob Ramshaw, Glen Taylor climbed highest from a corner to make it 2-1 right on half-time.

Having conceded seconds before the interval, it was a case of deja-vu 4 minutes after the break.

A free-kick from a wide left position was swung in by Kallum Griffiths and the ball went into the far corner off the inside of the far post.

But the hosts went straight up the other end and won a penalty converted by Lewis Smith, with Jamie Chandler sent-off for a second bookable offence for handball.

However, the game turned again 2 minutes later with Johnson restoring the two-goal advantage with a neat effort tucked beyond Lidakevicius.

And 5 minutes Johnson wrapped up the win, running through and striking low across Lidakevicius and into the far corner to complete his hat-trick.

Spennymoor now meet National League Bromley in the Quarter-Finals.
