Two New Coasters

Young striker George Newell has joined AFC Fylde on a season-long loan deal from League One side Bolton Wanderers, while the Coasters have also signed goalkeeper Rhys Taylor.

Nineteen-year-old Newell, son of former Blackburn Rovers striker Mike, has joined up with the Coasters in time to make the trip to AFC Telford United today.

Newell joined Wanderers from Everton last summer and has been a regular for their development squad.

Handed his Bolton debut as a substitute against Hull City in April 2016, the forward made two senior appearances for the Trotters last year and has featured for Phil Parkinson’s side during pre-season.

Former Wales under-17, under-19 and under-21 keeper Taylor (pictured), 26, started his career with Chelsea and had loan spells with QPR, Crewe Alexandra and Rotherham – making over sixty League appearances for the latter two.

After being released by the Blues, he a spent short time with Southend and then Preston before signing for Macclesfield Town in Febuary 2013.

He went on to play 109 times for the Silkmen before moving to Newport County in May 2015.

But he made only one appearance for the Rodney Parade outfit – starting in the 1-1 draw at home with Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup in September, before joining Wrexham on loan – originally until January before extending the move until the end of the season.
