Tuesday`s Round-Up: Vanarama National League North

By Steve Whitney

Harrogate Town narrowed the gap at the top of the Vanarama National League North table to eight points after a fine 4-1 win against play-off chasing Stockport County at the CNG Stadium on Tuesday night.

Both sides were looking to get back to winning ways after defeats last time out, but it was the home side who took the lead after 24 minutes through Jack Emmett with a low drive into the bottom corner.

Stockport hit back though 11 minutes later when Chris Smalley got on the end of a half-cleared corner to equalise.

Just 4 minutes later Simon Weaver`s side were back in front when George Thomson volleyed in a superb effort.

Harrogate made it 3-1 just shy of the hour-mark when Dominic Knowles curled home.

And Terry Kennedy wrapped things up with a fourth in the 67th minute with a header from a corner.

Kidderminster Harriers moved up to sixth after a comprehensive 4-0 win against mid-table FC United of Manchester at Aggborough.

It was goalless at the break after a frustrating 45 minutes, but Harriers broke the deadlock 9 minutes into the second half with a goal from Ryan Croasdale.

The highly-rated Joe Ironside doubled the home side`s lead on the hour-mark, but 9 minutes later came the decisive moment of the match when FC United`s Zac Corbett was red-carded on 69 minutes for an alleged elbowing incident involving James McQuilkin on the half-way line.

Sub George Waring increased Harriers` lead in the 77th minute and Elton Ngwatala made it 4-0 less than 2 minutes later.

Kidderminster moved above Blyth Spartans in the table after they were surprisingly beaten at home by lowly Alfreton Town, who moved up to thirteenth place in a congested bottom end of the table.

On a windy evening at Croft Park, the visiting Reds really battled hard for new boss Chris Moysesband it came as little surprise when they took the lead on the half-hour mark when Brendon Daniels got on the end of a far post cross from Ryan Jennings.

And they managed to keep the hosts at bay and complete the `double` over Spartans.

The evening`s other game also involved sides around the lower end of the table as Leamington entertained second-bottom Gainsborough Trinity.

And the Brakes got off to a great start with a goal from Daniel Udoh after less than 4 minutes.

That was the scoreline at half-time, but just 2 minutes into the second period,
Liam King turned a Kaine Felix cross into his own net to put the Brakes two-up.

Trinity came close to reducing the deficit on 76 minutes when Nathan Stainfield`s header was cleared off the line, but just 3 minutes later, Leamington killed the game off when Udoh charges down keeper Henrich Ravas` clearance and the ball bounced into the unguarded net.
