Tuesday`s Pre-Season Friendly Review

A round-up of pre-season friendly matches involving clubs in the Vanarama National Leagues....

Hartlepool United were edged out 2-1 by Sunderland, who suffered relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

The Black Cats had gone in front through a first half penalty converted by Josh Maja before summer signing Ryan Donaldson drilled home a leveller for Pools after the break.

Jeremain Lens to score a last-minute free-kick to hand Sunderland the win at Victoria Park.

Leyton Orient, who came down with Pools, enjoyed a 10-0 romp at Essex Senior Leaguers Burnham Ramblers.

Tristan Abrahams notched five goals, with un-named triallists adding a couple along with Steven Alzate and second-year scholar Ruel Sotiriou, who notched a brace in the closing stages.

National League newcomers Ebbsfleet United were beaten 2-0 by League Two Cambridge United at Stonebridge Road.

Matt Foy opened the scoring on 57 minutes.

Adam McGurk slammed home a second for United with 20 minutes remaining

National League returnees FC Halifax Town enjoyed a good 2-0 win against League One Rochdale.

Second half goals from Tom Denton and Matty Kosylo saw the Shaymen to victory at The Shay.

FC Halifax`s league rivals Wrexham edged a 2-1 win at Cantilver Park against Evo-Stik League Premier side Warrington Town.

Chris Holroyd and then Scott Boden made it 2-0 to the Dragons before Ruben Jerome pulled one back late on.

Barrow AFC created chances but no goals as they played out a stalemate with League Two side Crewe Alexandra at Holker Street.

There were no goals either at Mill Farm as newcomers AFC Fylde and League One Bolton Wanderers drew 0-0.

A youthful Aldershot Town side gave a good account of themselves but were ultimately well-beaten by Bostik League Premier Staines Town at Wheatsheaf Park.

The Swans goals came from Tom Collins, Lewis Driver, Elliot Buchanan a Miller-Rodney penalty and Elliot Baptiste, with George Root replying for the visitors.

Solihull Moors were beaten by the odd goal in three at home against Championship side Burton Albion.

Nigel Clough's men showed their quality at either end, with Matty Lund's third goal nudging them in front, before Marvin Sordell tucked home the winner after a fine equaliser from Luke Benbow during an entertaining second 45 minutes.

Sutton United triumphed 1-0 at National League South side Dartford at Princes Park.

The only goal arrived 10 minutes from time, Jeffrey Monakana's ball through the Darts defence converted first time by fellow substitute Pape Gueye.

Dagenham & Redbridge sent a young side to Bostik League North side Bowers & Pitsea - the game ending 1-1.

Elliot Romain`s opener for the Daggers was cancelled out by an un-named Bowers` triallist.

A stunning Scott Wilson strike helped Macclesfield Town beat League One side Bury 1-0 at Moss Rose.

Wilson`s powerful strike found the top corner 10 minutes from time in a tightly fought affair.

Macc`s league rivals Torquay United pushed League One new boys Plymouth Argyle really hard before going down 2-0 at Plainmoor.

The goals for Argyle, who made it six wins out of six in pre-season, came from Graham Carey and Joel Grant.

Chester FC were edged out in a best-of-five goals friendly at Moss Lane against now Evo-Stik League Premier side Altrincham.

Altrincham took a 33rd minute lead through Tom Peers. But just 4 minutes later, Chester netted an equaliser from Liam Davies from outside the box.

A brilliant goal by Jerome Wright made it 2-1 after 69 minutes and 7 minutes later, Josh Amis made it 3-1.

Lucas Dawson netted a penalty to make it 3-2 with 7 minutes remaining.

Guiseley AFC were beaten 2-1 at Nethermoor by League One neighbours Bradford City.

Kevan Hurst gave the Lions the lead in the second half, with Gordon Greer and a Tony McMahon free-kick turned round for the Bantams.

Woking were leading 1-0 at the Camrose against Evo-Stik League South Premier side Basingstoke Town when the game was abandoned.

Inih Effiong scored for the Cards before the game was abandoned at half-time due to a thunderstorm and torrential rain.

Maidstone United triumphed 5-0 at the Homelands against Bostik South newcomers Ashford United.

Harry Phipps and Joe Pigott both bagged brace for the Stone, with Tyler Campbell adding the other.

Eastleigh sealed a 4-0 win at Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier outfit Blackfield & Langley.

Paul McCallum bagged a brace, the second from the spot, with Craig McAllister and Mark Yeates also finding the target.

National League South side Wealdstone played out a tough 1-1 draw with new National League outfit Maidenhead United at Grosvenor Vale as torrential rain and thunderstorms struck during the second half.

Danny Green scored the Stones only goal midway through the second half against his former club after Jake Hyde had opened the scoring 5 minutes in.

Elliot Benyon also had a first-half penalty saved by Carl Pentney.

Stones` league rivals East Thurrock United ran out 4-2 winners against Bostik North side Canvey Island.

Max Cornhill headed the opener which Callum Ibe cancelled out.

Femi Akinwande restored the Rocks’ lead and Cornhill scored from long range, with substitute Harry Honesty adding a fourth.

An un-named triallist halved arrears as it ended 4-2.

Alfie Pavey scored a hat trick as Welling United ran out comfortable 5-2 winners at Bostik South side VCD Athletic.

Pavey scored twice from the penalty spot and one with a header, his goals were added to by Bradley Goldberg and Pierre-Joseph Dubois.

Concord Rangers shared a 2-2 draw at Longmead against Bostik Premier side Tonbridge Angels.

The Beachboys were ahead inside 15 minutes, Jason Williams netting his first goal for the club.

Kyron Farrell doubled the advantage in the second period.

Tonbridge missed a penalty before Nathan Elder grabbed a goal back for Angels and then Dan Thompson equalised.

Newly-promoted Chippenham Town lost 2-1 at Hardenhuish Park to League Two side Newport County.

Robbie Willmott's early goal was cancelled out by Chippenham`s former Exile, Andy Sandell.

Striker Marlon Jackson won the game for Newport with 15 minutes to go.

Bath City beat Championship side Reading`s under-23s 3-1 at Twerton Park.

After Chris Regis had given the Royals a 25th minute lead, goals in the final 8 minutes of the match from Lucas Capo, Jamie Lucas and Reece Misso won it for the Romans.

Ollie Canfer`s 76th minute effort saw Bostik North side Bury Town overcome Braintree Town at Ram Meadow.

Callum Ball and Rory Geary-Heaton won it for Boro with Tom McGlinchey scoring the Ravens goal.

Chelmsford City won 3-1 at Bostik Premier Enfield Town.

Michael West, Chris Dickson and Michael Spillane pulled City back after Simon Thomas had given Town an early 2nd minute lead.

Hungerford Town won 2-1 at Evo-Stik South West side Swindon Supermarine.

Nick Bignall and Stefan Brown for the Crusaders, Josh Parson pulling one back for `Marine.

Hungerford`s new league rivals, switched Gloucester City, were 2-0 winners at West Midlands (Regional) Leaguers Malvern Town.

Two quickfire goals from Edji Mbunga and Karnell Chambers won it for the Tigers.

Eleven years ago, when Southport played a pre-season friendly against Wigan Athletic, they were preparing to start out under the management of Paul Cook.

Having since achieved promotions in the EFL with Chesterfield and, last season, Portsmouth, Cook was back at the Merseyrail Community Stadium, taking his place in the away dug-out.

This summer, Southport once again find themselves at the start of a new chapter, and their preparations for the coming season continued with a creditable goalless draw against opposition from Sky Bet League One.

York City, who came down with Southport, were on the wrong end of an 8-0 battering by now League One side Blackburn Rovers at Bootham Crescent.

The Lancashire outfit were relegated from the Championship last term, but still showed plenty of pedigree with Paul Daddis and Ben Gladwin both bagging braces, Bradley Dack, Corry Evans, Danny Graham and Elliott Bennett all adding singles.

York`s new league rivals Alfreton Town went down 2-0 at the Impact Arena to another side relegated from the Championship, Rotherham United.

First half goals from David Ball and Jon Taylor were enough for the Millers.

Rotherham also sent a side to Alfreton`s league rivals Gainsborough Trinity and won 1-0.

Jamie Proctor scored the only goal for the Millers.

Another National League North side, Brackley Town, were held to a 2-2 draw at St James`s Park by Evo-Stik League South Premier outfit Kettering Town.

The home side swept into a 2-0 lead after just 5 minutes with a Lee Ndlovu brace.

It was 2-2 at half-time as Aaron O’Connor’s 7th minute strike and Rhys Hoenes’ 37th minute penalty evened things up.

Newly-promoted Spennymoor Town lost 2-1 at Ebac Northern Leaguers Morpeth Town.

The visitors took the lead through an own goal from Chris Reid, but the hosts responded quickly and equalised in similar fashion when Joe Tait turned into his own net just 3 minutes later.

Morpeth managed to find a late winner through Mark Davison on 88 minutes.

Liam Adams scored a second half equaliser as Boston United extended their unbeaten pre-season run at Evo-Stik South side Stamford AFC.

The much-changed Pilgrims trailed to Jake Duffy's deflected 20th minute free-kick but levelled 2 minutes after half-time through the impressive Adams.

Blyth Spartans, promoted to the National League North, beat Sunderland`s under-23s 3-2 at Croft Park.

Three goals in 6 second half minutes from Blyth after Rees Greenwood had given the Black Cats a first half advantage, turned the game in the hosts` favour.

David McTiernan fired a 6-minute hat-trick to turn the match on its head and give Blyth control.

Elliot Embleton reduced the arrears from the penalty spot with 14 minutes left.

AFC Telford United struck five goals past West Midlands (Regional) League side Wolverhapton Sporting.

Triallists Anthony Dwyer bagged a brace, while Ross White, Aaron Hayden and Kieran Dunbar also found the net.

A team of triallists took Kidderminster Harriers to the final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup with a 3-2 win at Evo-Stik South Premier neighbours Redditch United.

The visitors controlled the vast majority of the game and took an early lead as a low finish saw the first of three goals from players on trial.

Stockport County lost 1-0 at Evo-Stik Premier neighbours Ashton United.

County`s George West missed a penalty 5 minutes from time after Danny Johnson had converted his spot-kick 9 minutes earlier.

Tamworth were beaten 2-1 by Ashton`s league rivals Barwell at Kirkby Road.

Jake Whitmore`s 15th minute effort put the home side in front.

An un-named triallist equalised just after the break, but Ryan Baldwin won it for the Canaries 19 minutes from time.

Chorley suffered a 4-0 home defeat to League One Rochdale.

An un-named triallist did his chances of a Dale contract no harm with a hat-trick which Steve Davies added to.

Daniel Shaw salvaged a draw for Curzon Ashton in the Tameside friendly derby with League One Oldham Athletic.

Aaron Holloway had given the Latics a first minute lead.

A first half goal from an un-named triallist saw Bradford Park Avenue win 1-0 at Evo-Stik North neighbours Ossett Town.
