Tuesday Preview: Vanarama National League South

By Sam Elliott

Any one of three teams could sit proudly on top the Vanarama National League South by 10 o’clock tonight as the next round of fixtures should make for an interesting evening guaranteed!

Second place East Thurrock United must wait until Saturday for their next taste of action but most of the other clubs are getting ready for action.

It shows how competitive the league is that Braintree Town, who currently reside in fifth place, could be leading the table come tonight.

Of course they need results to go their way – and naturally three points at home to Kent’s Welling United – but manager Bradley Quinton is in a positive frame of mind after seeing his players come from behind to record victory at Oxford City on Saturday.

“We’re showing spirit,” suggested the manager, who is happy with the team’s start to the season. “But Welling will be well up for the game and we must play to our full potential.”

Chelmsford City hold the leadership after a weekend of slip ups by the teams at the top they know victory at Hampton will keep them there.

St Albans, in third, aren’t in action and that could well let in Havant and Waterlooville who are in great form and manager Lee Bradbury is hopeful of that continuing when they face off against Truro City tonight.

Another side in great form are Gloucester City. After 4 straight wins they go to Chippenham Town tonight looking to make it 5 wins from 5.

Two teams who need a win for different reasons are Whitehawk and Dartford and they go to war in Sussex looking for a valuable victory.

Eastbourne Borough will expect to jump into the play-off places tonight – if they beat Concord Rangers are Priory Lane that is.

Poole Town have lost their way lately after a good start but Tom Killick, the team manager, feels that bad form is just temporary.

The Dolphins can kick start things with home victory this evening against Hemel Hempstead Town, who lost at home to Truro City on Saturday.

Bath City are too inconsistent for the liking of manager Gary Owers. And he knows the importance of three home points for the Romans later.

They take on Oxford City looking to move into the top half of the table. Mike Ford’s team haven’t won in 4 games so both clubs need the points.

Two teams who will feel they need a win sooner rather than later meet in Somerset.

Weston Super Mare’s Seagulls have lacked bite, and were not in a good place on Saturday as they slumped to a 4-1 home loss against Havant.

Wealdstone, the visitors tonight to the Woodspring, endured late heartache at East Thurrock but have only won once meaning they need something positive this evening.

Hungerford are looking for a third win on the bounce but they won’t have things all their own way at Bognor Regis Town.

Tonight’s National League South fixtures:
Bath City v Oxford City
Braintree Town v Welling United
Bognor Regis Town v Hungerford Town
Chippenham Town v Gloucester City
Eastbourne Borough v Concord Rangers
