Toulson Becomes Second Avenue Signing

By Steve Whitney

Former Guiseley AFC and FC Halifax Town full-back Ryan Toulson has joined Vanarama National League North club Bradford Park Avenue.

The experienced right-back becomes Avenue’s second new signing of the summer following the arrival of striker Chris Sharp last Friday.

Toulson, 30, has spent the last two seasons at Nethermoor, making thirty-four appearances as they gained promotion to the National League, before playing thirty-eight times as the Lions defeated the odds to stay up last term.

Prior to his second career stint at Guiseley, Toulson also helped Halifax to promotion from the then-Conference North.

He in fact started his career at The Shay, before spells at Harrogate Town and Gainsborough Trinity. He joined Guiseley for the first time in 2010 before returning to Halifax after one season.

Toulson made eighty-nine appearances in three seasons with Halifax before returning to Nethermoor.

“He’s exactly the type of character we need,” said Avenue boss Alex Meechan. “Everyone who knows football at this level will know that Ryan Toulson always gives 100%.

“He’s committed to not only the football pitch but the dressing room as well, and we are going to need that bond off the field this year.

“We’re going to have a close-knit group and that is what I will implement, and Ryan is the perfect player for that”.
