Top Trio Honoured As Volunteer Gongs Are Dished Out

Of course what happens on the pitch is all important but sometimes it’s vital to remember what goes on behind the scenes.

Of course, what happens on the pitch is all important but sometimes it’s vital to remember what goes on behind the scenes.

That’s where the Vanarama Volunteer of the Month comes in - and we’ve got another batch of very worthy winners to introduce you to.

Thanks to our title sponsors, we have been able to honour the great at the good of the game for years.

Giving deserved recognition to those who give up their time just for the love of their club, we’re thrilled to be able to bring their stories to life.

Things haven’t gone exactly as Torquay United fans would have wanted this season, but the passion of their fans remains undiminished.

Sean O’Donoghue has been trying to put things right on the pitch in his role as a volunteer groundsman at Plainmoor.

Having assisted the club for more than a decade, he is even on hand at very short notice when he’s needed.

Whether it’s removing rain covers, mowing the pitch, devoting or moving the portable goals, he’s always happy to help and is known by everyone at the club as an all-round good guy that is committed to the cause.

They say the same about Richard Worton up at AFC Telford United.

But a lot of his hard work is behind the mask of the club’s official social media accounts!

For many years he has played a massive role on a matchday in providing the right experience for all the Bucks supporters who are in the ground and for those that can’t make it.

Making sure the club’s twitter account gives a blow-by-blow account of what’s going on, his coverage means fans far and wide never feel detached.

It’s not been a season to remember at Telford but his podcast has kept the mood high as the club begin to plot better things.

Our third big winner this month is used to enjoying life at the top end.

Mike Tanner, the Premises Manager at Worthing, has seen some fantastic celebrations in the past 12 months - and there still could be another in the 7-0 Good Friday win is anything to go by!

The club tell us he has made a significant and vital contribution to the upgrade of the stadium
to ensure it meets the grading criteria needed for the club’s rise.

Not only has he organised liaison of contractors and the National League grading committee, but he has also completed much of the manual labour himself.

He has shown tremendous commitment to the club for the past five years - and Worthing believe it is high time he was honoured.

We couldn’t agree more - well done to Mike, Sean and Richard!
