The Shots return to the International Stadium little over a week after their wasted trip to Gateshead after a failed inspection left them frustrated.
Widdrington knows his side couldn’t have timed their six-game winless run much worse but feels there could be one more twist to come.
His side sit two points outside the top seven and like FC Halifax - the only side they can dislodge - they have two games to go.
Three points tonight will take them into the top seven for 24 hours at least before FC Halifax Town face Oldham Athletic.
“I’m not going to be too harsh on the players, we have lived to fight another day,” the manager said after Saturday’s “dreadful” home defeat to Boreham Wood.
“Every team at the top has had a dip in the season and unfortunately for us it has come at the worst possible time.
“We’ve got to try and pick the boys up as quickly as we can, all isn’t lost but our form is really disappointing.
“Our mantra doesn’t change, we’ve just got to try and get those wins and as much as we have been a little frustrating, we’ve got to try and stay positive.”
