Despite finishing the campaign with nine straight wins, the Darts missed out on the championship to Havant & Waterlooville after the Hawks’ dramatic late win against Concord Rangers on the final day.
It means Burman’s men must do things the hard way and they welcome Braintree Town to Princes Park on Sunday in the play-off semi-final.
The Iron, who finished sixth in the table, beat Hemel Hempstead Town on penalties to earn their trip to Kent.
The winner will face either Chelmsford City or Hampton & Richmond Borough for a place in next season’s National League and Burman has been making sure his side now put the regular season behind them.
"We had a chat and I told the guys to keep their heads up because everyone's proud of them,” he told Kent Online.
"The most important game is Sunday and that's what we've got to aim for. There's no shame in what's happened. We're disappointed we haven't reached the target but we're not downhearted because we've now got another chance to go up via the play-offs.
"I'm delighted with what we've achieved so far this year and it's not finished yet. We have to move on.”
Burman added: "We're a good side and we don't fear anybody but we've got to show everybody respect. Sunday is a big game and hopefully, we can win it.”
