Things Need To Get Better Says Oldham Manager Mellon

Oldham Athletic manager Micky Mellon expressed concerns about his side’s pre-season performances and accepts his team need to pick things up.

It’s been a mixed summer so far results wise, with defeat to lower level Rylands, Radcliffe and Southport.

The Latics did beat League One Stockport County and claimed a draw with Lincoln City but Mellon knows supporters aren’t expecting another challenging season.

The former Tranmere boss says he never reads too much into pre-season results.

But he did admit there’s plenty of room for improvement and listed the areas following the weekend loss to National League North Radcliffe.

“It needs be better than that” he said. “We want a bit more intensity, guile and fight.

“We are working towards the first game of the season and there is plenty to think about. I expected us to come here and do better to be honest, I thought we would do more.

“It is about learning, fitness and all the rest of it but we want to get results, we know we need to do better,” he told the Oldham Times.

The Latics kick-off the new season with a home game against Braintree Town on August 10.
