There Could Be One More Twist Ahead Says Bromley Boss

By Sam Elliott

Neil Smith refuses to play the ‘if only’ game. He thinks there could be yet another twist to come in Bromley’s season.

The Ravens manager watched with mouth wide open as his side missed chance after chance on Tuesday night as they somehow failed to get the better of Barrow. Watch Highlights Here.

A fourth win in a row would have taken the club into the top seven - and put them in charge of their own destiny on the final day.

But it wasn’t to be. The painful goalless draw means they now need to go to in-form Maidenhead United and win and also hope either Boreham Wood drop two points or three points at home to Guiseley, or that AFC Fylde lose at Wrexham.

Smith isn’t pointing fingers at his players for failing to convert one of their half-a-dozen clean cut opportunities in midweek.

He knows his squad have enough about them to cause a last day stir by dislodging one of the two clubs who have held their play-off place for so long.

“I have nothing but great things to say about this set of players, what they have done this season is remarkable,” Smith, who will lead hometown team Bromley out in the FA Trophy final against Brackley next month, told us.

“Yes we didn’t take our chances when they came our way. We should have had a penalty but when it’s not your night it’s not your night.

“I won’t criticise. They have been outstanding and who would have thought a few weeks ago we would even be in with a chance?”

He added: “We would have all taken this situation four games ago. Just to still be in it on the final day of the season is a huge achievement considering we were so many points behind in late March. The players know how to pick themselves up and they can go again on Saturday.

“We’ve seen things take a twist this month already so who’s to say there won’t be one final one to come and we can get into the play-offs?”

Smith says the visit to Maidenhead will be “a really tough challenge” against Alan Devonshire’s team who have won four of their last five matches.
