The Weekend Starts Here! So What's In Store On Saturday?

By Sam Elliott

The boys are back in town on Saturday - and we have maybe our first big game of the season so far.

Tuesday drew a contrast in fortunes for two of the promotion favourites so this weekend could provide some early season answers.

Chesterfield manager Martin Allen expects a reaction from his team after their first defeat and an end to their winning start when they face Salford City.

The Ammies want their season to have lift off after ending FC Halifax’s 100 per cent start. Adam Rooney’s two goals means he is certainly in the groove.

Wrexham, though, are top of the table and head to Eastleigh with a proud record.

The Red Dragons are yet to let in a goal but the Spitfires go into the game on the back on a 1-0 win over Bromley.

Solihull Moors were another of the nine-point starters to lose their touch on Tuesday - they face a Sutton United side who are in good early season form.

Hartlepool manager Matthew Bates says their luck is out four games in but it needs to turn at home to Maidenhead, also winless, to get themselves up the table.

Aldershot Town host Harrogate as both of the side grabbed their first win in midweek, as did Leyton Orient. The unbeaten O’s host Boreham Wood.

Braintree Town and Havant & Waterlooville have both come up from the National League South.

But neither side have tasted three points at this level yet - will Saturday’s provide that first three points for someone at Cressing Road?

Barnet badly need their first win on the board. It’s not been a National League return that John Still would have wanted four games in.

The Bees host Ebbsfleet United, with their manager Daryl McMahon demanding his players start turning good performances into victories.

Still’s former side Dagenham & Redbridge also need that first victory. They won’t have it easy at FC Halifax, with Jamie Fullarton’s men winning three of their four so far.

AFC Fylde and Dover Athletic meet after a big midweek boost of three points.

Gateshead have ten points on the board already but Bromley have yet to win. How will things pan out at Hayes Lane?

Barrow have won twice at home and Ian Evatt wants their away form to be just as good, they go to a Maidstone United side who have yet to win at the Gallagher Stadium.
