The Sides At The Summit All Hit The Road This Evening

By Sam Elliott

There’s another exciting night ahead of us as things already begin to take shape at both ends of the table.

It is safe to say it’s been an eye-catching start to the new National League season so with the second month nearing completion, there’s a lot at stake as the floodlights go on.

Three sides are locked on 21 points at the top and all face demanding away trips tonight. While it’s way too early to roused at the thought of an incredible title race, the foundations are being laid.

Forest Green Rovers are the team to beat says Dean Brennan - many will agree they are the “championship favourites” if they can go to Oldham Athletic and win.

While Micky Mellon’s side haven’t exactly been firing, they have only lost once - and victory at Boundary Park will bring the Latics to within a point of Rovers.

Leaders Barnet have a tough test at Aldershot Town, while York City - the other team in a cluster of clubs at the summit - head to Solihull Moors.

Sitting in fourth and happy to let all the others hog the headlines are Eastleigh. While it will take a lot for them to regain the leadership later, a win at home to Woking will help their chances.

Rochdale, pictured, didn’t want their little wobble. They would be right up there too if they hadn’t suffered back-to-back losses but they can repair that damage with three points at Hartlepool United, who have also lost their last two.

Gateshead are going through a testing period as well and won’t have it all their own way against a spirited Boston United, who are showing that they won’t be accepting defeat easily this season.

It’s a big night down the bottom as well as the two sides at the foot of the table meet.

Harry Watling’s encouraging start as Ebbsfleet United manager will count for little if they are defeated at Maidenhead, who are trying to avoid a damaging fourth defeat in a row.

Meanwhile Dagenham & Redbridge are looking to make it four wins from four. Altrincham need to offer their supporters a response after a wasteful Saturday.

Braintree Town are bottom of the six game form guide so it’s a big night for Angelo Harrop at home to FC Halifax Town.

Sutton United will expect to be back in the play-offs come 10pm if they win for a third game in a row. They welcome Yeovil Town.

It’s going to take a lot to topple Tamworth this season - but AFC Fylde need to give their season a kick with more home points.

Wealdstone fans may be a little worried but Matt Taylor stresses it is still early days. The mood changes with three points at home to Southend United, who know three points hauls them closer to the top seven.
