The Return Of The National League North and South!

By Sam Elliott

The FA Cup is put to one side for now as the battle for National League North and South points resumes.

Last week the Second Qualifying Round took place and after the draw was made, the month ends with the next lot of ties but before that we’ve got some important matches to get through.

The final North games before October 7 will see an intriguing programme and while there may not be a six pointer in September you get the feeling a game at the wrong end will have big significance.

Darlington - down in 24th - welcome 23rd place Gloucester City and both have new managers. Josh Gowling and Tigers’ returning Mike Cook both really need a productive start.

Leaders Tamworth know they have their work cut out at Southport who have won three league games from three but Jim Bentley knows there’s so much work to do after they were humbled 3-0 at Morpeth in the FA Cup.

It’s been a difficult week for Scunthorpe United and Chorley will be licking their lips at the prospect of a home game against the Iron.

Boston United and Chester both have promotion ambition and and neither side want to be out of the top seven for too long as Curzon Ashton, pictured, want to topple Fsvin Cowan’s Brackley Town at St James Park.

South Shields face a tough examination at Peterborough Sports while Warrington Town and King’s Lynn meet knowing they need to arrest their slump.

Alfreton Town make the trip to Blyth Spartans and there could be goals as Buxton and Spennymoor Town aim to both continue an impressive first seven weeks.

In the National League South, Yeovil Town are starting to find their feet and score some goals but will that continue at Hampton & RB?

Leaders Bath City are bang in form and will fancy their chances of dispatching Dover Athletic at Twerton Park.

Hemel Hempstead have already taken some scalps this season and want to add Torquay United to the list, while an all Essex affair sees Braintree Town and Aveley meet.

Worthing and Maidstone United will both hope to be in the mix when it matters, they face off in Kent and the same can be said of St Albans City and Chelmsford, who go into battle for three valuable points at Clarence Parkz

Fifth-place Taunton Town is where Havant & Waterlooville’s new manager Steve King hopes he can get his first win in charge.

Elsewhere Danny Bloor returns to Eastbourne Borough as Welling United manager and Slough Town take on Farnborough.
