By Sam Elliott

No fewer than nine National League clubs are on the FA Cup prowl over the coming three days.

So who will make the headlines as the second round of the famous old competition kicks off this evening?

The games are again split over the weekend meaning more focus falls on clubs as they plot a January date with a Premier League giant.

Saturday sees our first look at the National League clubs, and it’s rare that one of our teams losing at this stage would register as a huge upset.

But that’s what AFC Fylde must beware of as they head to south west London as Isthmian League Kingstonian welcome the Coasters to Tolworth.

Down the A3, Altrincham have one of the biggest tests possible at 2008 winners Portsmouth.

But manager Phil Parkinson thinks some special could happen at Fratton Park for a club who know all about springing a surprise against big boys in blue.

He said: “We don’t have to win it on the day –maybe we have to survive the day a little bit.

“But if we can get a bare minimum of bringing them back here then I’ll be one of the happiest managers going into the hat on Monday.”

Eastleigh play a little further along the south coast soon after - Ben Strevens’ team take on League Two club Crewe.

Sunday sees plenty more action for our clubs, with all games kicking off at 2pm.

Boston United go looking for glory at Rochdale as Craig Elliott’s National League North team aim to keep their fantastic run going.

MeanwhileMaidstone United have real recent history in the competition and Blackpool will know that as the Stones head north looking for a scalp.

Hartlepool and their many hundreds of fans swap the north east for the south west of England - a testing trip to Exeter City awaits.

Notts County are no stranger to Northampton Town.

Neal Ardley takes his team to Sixfields hoping to put their unconvincing National League form to one side.

Dover famously beat Sol Campbell’s Southend United in round one - but they have their work cut out against free scoring Peterborough United.

Whites manager Andy Hessenthaler said: “The pressure is on them.

“We’ll have to play to our maximum and hope they have an off day but who knows.”

On Monday it’s the turn of Solihull Moors - they test their excellent home form against Rotherham United in the live BT Sport match.
